Comparing Tom Quackenbush's Teacher Training Program with that of [another Bates Method teacher], I found Tom Quackenbush's course far more useful. For anyone wanting to teach Natural Eyesight Improvement, Tom offers a format that can readily be repeated. In six months of teaching the Bates method, I have taught what is basically Tom's course to 44 people and their feedback has been very positive. I enjoyed your presentation at the XX International Holistic Vision conference in Italy. For me, it was a mini-concentrated version of the TTP---a very comfortable feeling. However, one thing really surprised me at that conference and it is the fact that just about everyone, except you of course, used the word "exercises"---How amazing! I was very surprised to see how far away most people are from the actual teachings of Dr. Bates. He did speak about habits and that point has escaped most people. As for me, it sort of made your teaching even more powerful. I have one class left to teach in my first NEI course. I am happy to report that my students are quite happy as well, very interested and obviously also pleased with the way I present the various activities and explanations. Upon returning home and getting an eye exam, the reduced 20/40 glasses I had gotten before coming to Oregon are now 20/20!! I may never need to go for another prescription, because when my new reduced glasses get to 20/20 I will be able to pass a driver's vision test without glasses! I was so excited leaving the doctor's office! As I drove home I listened to the song "Miss Independence" and thought how wonderful it will be to have my independence back and no longer have to rely on glasses. I have to say "Thank you" to Tom! I have my first free lecture set up for mid-September and am locking down my location & dates from my first classes. I can't wait to share this great news with others.—Sheri

One of the Best Gifts of My Life; Having Fun
I want to update you on what I've been doing with my new career. I started one class this summer (four completed, three to go). Attending are five friends with a variety of vision problems and Dimitri, who you referred to me. I am very thankful to have Dimitri in my class because he is by far the most enthusiastic and motivated vision student. His presence has helped not only my enthusiasm but the other students as well. I am having fun with it.I have taken some time in sending you a summary of my vision experiences during and after your class. I needed time to reflect and absorb all that I learned. And to see if the increased clarity I experienced during your classes is long lasting---it is. But I now offer this flowing statement with all my heart:
Tom, I want to thank you for giving me one of the best gifts of my life. Not only did I relearn to see, but I relearned how to live. In your classes I learned that vision becomes clear only when it is effortless. I like to tell you that I am so pleased with the stay at your place, and that I feel your teaching has been really useful for my daily life. I am sure I have improved my vision---and I am much more aware of the details of the colours---and the 3 D. Amazing! More Than Prepared; Best Class I Have Ever Taken
Your teacher training class was the best class I have ever taken. I feel more than prepared to teach others to see. We have more than enough to work with. I am different now when introducing folks to natural vision. I can answer questions calmly and confidently. I talk to people relaxingly, reassuringly, and with curiosity about them. Coming home has been a tremendous joy. Since I left I had been anticipating seeing my visual progress after 6 weeks of being away. The immense joy is flooding back like it did when I first took off my glasses. I take my walks in familiar places and know that I am seeing much better. I saw the spores on the fern fronds one relaxed morning. I look at the mitts I wear to stretch and am surprised I have no glasses on when they seem so clear. Everything is vibrant. But best of all, from the bluff all the way down to the river mouth hundreds of feet away, I can see if the seals and seagulls are hanging out! I am so happy and so sure that I will regain my sight completely. AMAZING! I will be forever AMAZED. Thank you for keeping the joy of natural vision alive and teaching us all to do the same. Excellent; Very Enjoyable; Detailed Course Runs Straight Away
I want to thank you for the Teacher Training Program which was excellent and a very enjoyable experience. I have been teaching a few people who live too far away to attend courses. I believe that you have heard from one of them---my Dad! He's pretty interesting really as I don't think that he has ever quite believed me about this and has always quite liked wearing glasses. Not a promising student, but I did an hour with him and my Mum. I didn't measure his vision before we started, but after the hour he was amazed to find he could see car number plates at the legal distance for driving, and read very small print in a good light---not bad for 76. He has decided to experiment and go without glasses and is getting on really well. I keep getting phone calls telling me that he can see things that he didn't expect and it is all very encouraging. I have also taught a few friends, all of whom saw an improvement in an hour's lesson.
[3 months after graduation:] I've been to the optician today and wanted to let you know that she confirmed that my eyesight has improved since I did the Teacher Training Program. At my last test my unaided acuity was 6/13 (right) and 6/9 (left). Today it was measured at 6/9- (right) and 6/6- (left)—just a smidgen away from 20/20. And the optician confirmed that I definitely don't need glasses for driving—fantastic! Thanks once again for the course. It's really exciting to have been able to improve my vision further. I now know that better than 20/20 with both eyes is possible; in fact, I'm certain I sometimes see this well already...The best thing for me about Tom's program is coming away with a detailed course that you can run straight away.—Erica

Almost one year ago I completed your Teacher Training Program. I am amazed at subtle explorations that have had profound impact in my body and mind during the past year. JOY is the experience; yet the word seems much too small to describe it. I rarely experience migraine or tension headaches anymore. For two decades they plagued my life on a weekly basis. Thank you for all of your research, your consolidation of Bates' life work, and your dedication to teaching. It is amazing to now have the gift of choice. I never really knew what "choice" meant until exploring this body of knowledge for myself. I sometimes fluctuate (visually and physically) as I discover myself, however, knowing what comprises a natural, healthy choice is beyond compare. I have improved my vision from 20/1000 (which I've had before entering school) to 20/300 as measured by my eye doctor through the training of Tom Quackenbush and my own integration of the natural vision habits. This improvement took me a little under a year. I...often have period of amazingly clear sight without glasses. I recently had the experience of sitting in a classroom where I was taking a course that I very much enjoyed, and being able to clearly see and read my textbook without glasses at a distance of 12". My optimum distance for reading was tested at 2-3" from my face. So, I was doing what is considered to be impossible for me. I noticed that while I was doing this, my body was relaxed, my mind was focused and my interest was absorbed to the point of not thinking about seeing or using my eyes. I was able to sustain this throughout the entire class.—Dmitra

I just returned from a week in the redwoods at a women's equinox retreat. I did some lecturing on natural vision and the response was enthusiastic. I haven't needed my glasses since I left Oregon. I am so grateful for all the wonderful teachings that you shared with me. [Donna recently passed her driver's vision test without corrective lenses.]
[Follow-up:] I drove out to Tucson last week and it was a relaxing drive without having to wear glasses. Also, I love being able to read the comics in the paper [without glasses], (something I couldn't do last summer.) Successful Right Away; Excited; Appreciate Your Thoroughness
Yes, Tom, you were right! One can be successful at teaching Natural Eyesight Improvement classes right away. I wanted to tell you how excited I am—I will be teaching my first class tomorrow; there are six students enrolled, plus I have ten(!) students enrolled for the Tuesday night class. You were right about getting them to the free lectures—I gave five free lectures to a total of about 40 people. The Tuesday evening class filled up very quickly; I had to turn down four people, plus there are others interested in my January class. It seems like people here in Manila are ready for this. I really appreciate your thoroughness in teaching us.
That was a great referral you gave me (Anabel). Thank you. She's taking my class along with 4 friends. She also brought her husband, brother and mother to a free lecture. She and her group were taught eye exercises in a workshop by a fellow named Leo...They have seen some improvement; but Anabel sees that it has only taken her so far.
